Samsung Galaxy S III May Run On Quad-Core Processor [UPDATED]

If the rumor mill carries anything of significance, Samsung’s yet-to-be-announced Galaxy S IIIcould boast an impressive quad-core Exynos 4412 CPU – a move which would really throw down the gauntlet to rival manufacturers.

AndroidAndMe, a site dedicated to covering all things Droid, has done its homework on the device and uncovered information buried in the "Linux Kernel Archives" which seems to suggest that the Korean electronics giant is already at testing stage of the Exynos 4412.
As well as being a lot faster than anything else on the market, it would be more economical with battery consumption – a fundamental aspect of any smartphone. Many current smartphones are home to some great on paper features; but in reality, the battery dies within a few hours – rendering the device useless to power-users.
It would be a relatively significant upgrade from the Galaxy S II’s dual-core 1.2 GHz Exynos 4210 processor, and would use 30% less power than its predecessor.
Citing a tipster, AndroidAndMe reckons Samsung has a few devices set for release early next year that will "blow minds" and will be "big step past the Galaxy Nexus class, in every way,"painting a very exciting picture for the opening quarter of 2012.
The post also toys with the idea of an improved GPU this time around. The Galaxy S II’s Exynos 4210 was armed with the ARM Mali-400 GPU which, at time of release, was the fastest going, but has since been surpassed by Apple’s A5 chip and its PowerVR SGX543MP2 GPU.
Whatever the case, Samsung will be keen to topple bitter rivals Apple in the battle for the smartphone crown. The Cupertino company has made a lot of noise with its Siri-wieldingiPhone 4S, but a quad-core processor would certainly test the fruit company’s resolve.
The alarming exchange of mainly patent-based lawsuits between the two has seen previous business ties completely strained as both try to work independently of each other. It will certainly be a battle worth watching, and all will be covered here at Redmond Pie in due course.
In the meantime, and back on the subject of the purported quad-core S III, would you buy it? Would sheer power and the promise of Ice Cream Sandwich entice you over the bells and whistles of Siri and the brand-new iOS 5?
Leave your thoughts on our Facebook or Google+ pages!

Update: According to a very reliable and trusted source, prototypes of the Samsung Galaxy S III do NOT feature quad-core processors. Our source has inspected the current prototypes, thus we can only presume that the final product – which will probably release early 2012 - will too be bereft of a quad-core processor.

Here’s How To Enable The New YouTube Design Right

Google revealed an all-new look for its video-sharing website YouTube around a week ago. The redesign is part of the company’s efforts to unify the look of their online services and products. While the new design is being rolled out to users in stages and won’t be available to all for a few weeks, anyone with 2 minutes to spare can start using the new design right nowby following our step-by-step guide after break!
The method comes from The Verge – a blog dedicated to covering the latest and greatest in consumer electronics – in the form of a short guide where they inform readers on how to enable the new YouTube UI on your favorite browser.
From The Verge:
You saw Google’s redesigned look for YouTube a week ago, now how about giving it a try? The new YouTube is being rolled out in stages, and for those who haven’t yet received access to it, Moritz Tolxdorff over on Google+ and Lawls in our own forums have detailed a relatively painless way to speed things up.
It’s a simple five-step process. Anyone with a little computer experience can follow through with ease.
How To Enable New YouTube UI On Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Safari
Step 1: Launch youtube.com from your favorite browser.
Step 2: You must now open up page inspection menu. There are different ways to opening it up across different browsers but we’ll be covering Firefox, Chrome and Safari only since they are the most popular browsers used to access Redmond Pie.
  • Firefox: Cmd + Shift + K (Mac), Ctrl + Shift + J (Windows)
  • Chrome: Cmd + Alt + J (Mac), Ctrl + Shift + J (Windows)
  • Safari: Go to Preferences > Advanced and enable Show Develop menu in menu bar. You will now see a new menu item Develop. Close Preferences. Right click < Inspect element.
Step 3: Add in the following code:
document.cookie="VISITOR_INFO1_LIVE=ST1Ti53r4fU";
Step 4: Close page inspection element.
Step 5: Refresh web page.

This DJ Uses A MacBook Pro To Play Tunes At Microsoft Store Opening !

Just a few moments ago, Microsoft has just opened it's first retail store on the East coast at the Tysons Corner mall in McLean, Virginia. Like other Microsoft stores, the new location is strategically placed near the local Apple Store.
And of course as Microsoft celebrate by opening it's retail store, Microsoft hired a DJ to play music and make the store looks great, but the question here is what kind of laptop the DJ used? The picture above show's the DJ playing music and he DJ clearly using a MacBook Pro, but Microsoft made him cover the Apple logo with a “Microsoft Store” sticker. If you can’t beat ‘em, cover ‘em up with your own branding.

Microsoft saw an eight-hour line for its store opening, but people weren’t lined up because they wanted to get their hands on the latest Windows Phone. So what do you think Macbook pro is a very special laptop...

How To Enable Hidden iTunes Notifications On Mac OS X

Turns out there an iTunes Dock setting for the Mac, hidden deep inside the new Lion OS. Once activated, the Dock will produce a pop-up notification of which iTunes track is currently playing. Although you can program Growl, a useful little utility, to show similar notifications, you may prefer having the native one found in Lion.
The feature is only available to those running the latest Lion OS X 10.7.  It just need to be activated. After following a few simple steps, a window will appear above the iTunes icon on your Dock each time a new track starts, displaying the artist and song title.  The notification window will automatically remove itself after a few seconds.
Here’s how to activate it now:
Step 1: Quit iTunes.
Step 2: Open Terminal (Found in Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities).
Step 3: Copy and paste the following command:
defaults write com.apple.dock itunes-notifications -bool TRUE;killall Dock
Step 4 (Optional): You can customize it even further by adding the iTunes icon inside the popup along with the song info. Just add the following command:
defaults write com.apple.dock notification-always-show-image -bool TRUE;killall Dock
Step 5: Open iTunes and give it a try!
I’d like to think that I’m familiar with every song in my iTunes library, but decided to try the feature anyway. At first I thought it would be distracting, but found it unobtrusive and actually pretty cool! I think I may go ahead and keep it for a while. The process is completely reversible, anyway. If for any reason you’d like to deactivate the feature, simply follow these steps:
Step 1: Quit iTunes.
Step 2: Open Terminal.
Step 3: Copy and paste the following two lines:
defaults delete com.apple.dock itunes-notifications
defaults delete com.apple.dock notification-always-show-image;killall Dock
Keir Thomas discovered this handy little feature and shared it on Mac OS X Hints. He mentions that when he found the tweak, it came bundled with options allowing you to change the size (height and width) of the notification window. Apple could have been working on a new notification system to use with OS X applications but may not have been ready to make it official.
Bookmark this page, or save the instructions nearby in case you’d like to experiment with the hidden tweak.

Galaxy Nexus Scores Higher Than iPhone 4S In Majority Of Benchmark Tests

Although the Samsung Galaxy Nexus – the first device to feature Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) has yet to launch Stateside, it can be found on the UK market, and the comparisons between it and others on the market has inevitably begun.
AnandTech has kicked things off with a few benchmark tests, which scrutinize a device in key areas, scoring points depending on capabilities, and are then subsequently compared with other smartphones on the market .
Despite the great early sales figures allied to critical acclaim, Apple’s treasured iPhone 4S andiOS 5 do fall short in a couple of key areas.
The #1 spot for the Galaxy Nexus in quite a few of the tests is largely attributable to Ice Cream Sandwich as opposed to the device itself, which while very competitive in terms of processor speed / GPU, is nothing astronomical.
The graph above represents the tested browsing speeds of Samsung’s latest offering. even though the difference is said to be minor, such day-to-day tasks must be as fluent and easily executed as possible. As you can see, it almost doubles the score of the Galaxy S II, which itself is a very good device – certainly not what you would call slow.
Although the Galaxy Nexus dominates on most fronts, it doesn’t have everything its own way. The iPhone 4S, with its dual-core A5 chip, outdoes its Samsung rival in the GPU loading stakes – pretty important to ensure smooth gameplay.
Then again, surely the speed of the essentials – email, aforementioned browsing and the like should be held in higher regard than potential for gaming? Having said that, with smartphones fast-becoming the new handheld console, one suspects many look at the gaming potential in a smartphone just as much as anything else.
The news doesn’t help our American following, who will now be even more eager to get their hands on what appears to be a very good device running the latest mobile OS from the Big G.
Let’s just hope the wait isn’t much longer.
