Install deb files from Cydia [Tutorial]

STEP 1: Connect your iPhone to the PC via FTP or another iPhone file utility.
STEP 2: Go to /private/var/cache/apt/archives.
STEP 3: Download any tweak or app you desire but don’t reboot or restart springboard.
STEP 4: Refresh the /private/var/cache/apt/archives directory, and you should see your .deb file ready for download.

Just to be very clear on this. No matter what we did, the Flash Player was not going to be available on Apple’s iOS anytime in the foreseeable future.”

Jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 Using Redsn0w 0.9.9b8 ! [How To]

reak iOS 5.0.1 Using Redsn0w 0.9.9b8 : iOS 5.0.1,  launched to the public for all iPhone, iPad and iPod touch users. Just like previous releases – iOS 5.0.1 can be jailbroken using the latest version of the iPhone Dev Team’s tool, redsn0w.
iOS 5.0.1, can be jailbroken using redsn0w 0.9.9b8 and the SemiTether tool can be used on iOS 5.0.1 to bring semi-tethered jailbreak. For more information about the SemiTether on a previous post.

Supported devices for the below guide:

iPhone 4 (semi untethered)
iPhone 3GS new bootrom (semi untethered)
iPhone 3GS old bootrom (untethered)
iPod touch 4G (semi untethered)
iPod touch 3G (semi untethered)
iPad 1 (semi untethered)

Of course the iPad 2 and iPhone 4S jailbreaks are not yet available. If you’re looking forward to fast & future jailbreak, betternot upgrade to iOS 5.0.1.

Jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 Semi Untethered:

STEP 1: Download iTunes 10.5 and iOS 5.0.1 final version.

STEP 2: Backup your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch and restore it using the iOS 5.0.1 IPSW file downloaded from the first step.

STEP 3: Download Redsn0w 0.9.9b8 for Windows or Mac OS X from here.

STEP 4: Open Redsn0w and select “Extras” then “Select IPSW” and browse for the iOS 5.0 IPSW file (download here).

STEP 5: Now click on “Jailbreak” then “Install Cydia”. You’ll need to follow the on-screen instructions to get your device into DFU mode.

STEP 6: Once jailbroken, your device will be rebooted.

STEP 7: Now open Redsn0w again and hit “Extras” then “Just Boot”.

STEP 8: Now head to Cydia then search for “SemiTether” and install the tool:

NOTE: The last step about SemiTether is optional for users. It will allow you to reboot your device without need to a computer to connect to. You’ll lose some functions like opening mail and almost all jailbreak tweaks. You can read morehere.

The BigBoss has announced about iOS 5 semiuntethered jailbreak or to be accurate (semi tethered jailbreak), whatever it called, let's show you what does semi tethered jailbreak means after the jump.


What's tethered jailbreak :

Tethered jailbreaks are frustrating because they require a computer connection to boot a jailbroken iOS device. The concept of a tethered jailbreak has been around a long time, but essentially it means this: every time your iPhone or iPod touch reboots or the battery dies, you have to connect (tether) your iOS device back to your computer so that the hardware can boot with the aid of the jailbreak application.


What's untethered jailbreak :

An untethered jailbreak is the preferred jailbreak because it requires no connection to your computer except for the initial jailbreaking process. You can reboot your iPhone or iPod touch as much as you want without having to tether it to your computer to boot. If the battery dies on a device that has an untethered jailbreak, it’s no big deal you just charge it again and it will boot as usual.

What's Semi-Tethered jailbreak means :


The main issue of tethered jailbreak is that you need to connect your device to computer to use Redsn0w "Just Boot" tethered option every time your reboot your device. Semi-tethered jailbreak come specially to fix this issue, as it allows you reboot your device without connecting it with computer. So now you have untethered jailbreak on iOS 5. But the main issue is that 99% of jailbreak apps and tweaks won't work at all. So what now ? Semi-tethered jailbreak is only a protection for you if your device reboots while you were away from your computer, but you will be able to use the most important functions of you iPhone until you get home and connect it with Redsn0w.

While using Semi- Tethered jailbreak - Working Functions :
  • Can use phone, sms (text messages)
  • Can use every other stock app on iPhone.
  • Can use other appstore web browsers such as atomic web browser
While using Semi- Tethered jailbreak - Not-Working Functions :
  • Cannot use mobile safari
  • Cannot use mail app. You could install a gmail app from appstore or such instead.
  • You cannot use any jailbreak tweak, app, cydia until you boot tethered.
  • While in the semitether booted state, you should not add a jailbreak ios5 notification such as sbsettings to notifications during this state or your device will be stuck in a respring loop until you get home to “boot tethered”.

    Step 1: You must install iOS 5 on you device and tethered jailbreak it (Jailbreak guide - Click Here)

    Step 2: Now, open Cydia > Manage > Sources.


    step 3: Tap on Edit > Add and insert the following repository http://thebigboss.org/semitether

  • Step 4: Search for SemiTether and install it then reboot your device.


tep 5: Now congratulations, now you have protected your device and you will never stuck on Apple logo again

How to Semi-Untethered jailbreak iOS 5 [Video Tutorial]


UPDATE 1: SemiTether has been updated to fix some issues.
I updated to 0.7.9. This version will take about 90 seconds after it first boots up and then your device will respring again. This timing was the only way to get some of the launch daemons to properly relaunch.
SemiTether 0.7.9 should fix issues for some of you where:
1) Device does not sync with itunes and only errors. Hopefully solved.
2) Device reboots after 2-3 minutes.
UPDATE 2: SemiTether updated again to support Safari working in non-tethered status.
